COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course consists of eight modules of sport specific material. Two of these modules are postal assignments. The remaining modules require attendance over six weekends
in Nottingham, which are generally arranged a month apart.
Sports massage is covered to enable work to be undertaken on sporting professionals under the direction of a physiotherapist. Training is also given to enable students to evaluate and enhance performance in the field of sport.
Students also have a log book to complete with records of
treatments they have conducted in the sporting field.
COURSE CONTENT:
Part 1 = Principles of Sports Medicine and Tissue Science
Part 2 = Exercise Physiology and Biochemistry
Part 3 = Sports Massage
Part 4 = Lower Limb Injuries
Part 5 = Upper Limb Injuries
Part 6 = Head, Pelvis and Spine
Part 7 = First-Line Treatment and Rehabilitation
Part 8 = Thermal and Electrical Therapy

ASSESSMENT:
Written and practical examinations are undertaken to assess whether the candidate has the necessary academic and practical knowledge to work confidently as an individual or as part of a multi-disciplinary team in providing a high standard of supervision and care for athletes, within the limits of their own professional practice and in accordance with an acceptable code of ethics.
- Students are required to attend all the seminars
- Students are required to complete all research assignments
- A 3 hour written examination covering Anatomy and Physiology and Consultation, Examination and Treatment requires a passing grade of 65%.
- There is also a practical exam, in which an overall grade of 75% is required
- A Credit is awarded to those who achieve 75% or more in the
written paper
- A Distinction is awarded for a grade of 85% or over in the written
paper
QUALIFICATION:
A Diploma in Sports Massage, Injury and Rehabilitation is awarded to successful candidates.
The successful candidate can use the letters Dip
SM (MSM) after their name on completion of this course and apply for
full membership of the NAMMT.
FEES:
Total course cost = £1290. This includes an initial enrolment fee of £120, which is waived for students already engaged on the Diploma in Remedial Massage
or the Advanced Diploma in Manipulative Therapy. Payments can be
made by standing order of £130 over nine months.
Students may make payment in full at the
commencement of the course by cheque or credit card. Payment by credit card incurs a 5% charge.
Fees are non-refundable in the event of non-attendance but in certain circumstances a student may have their course temporarily suspended. Fees are subject to revision at any time except for students already enrolled. Enrolment is deemed to have lapsed after 12 months of non-attendance.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Prospective students must hold an existing
massage qualification and selection is made by interview. Students
must also undertake work experience during the course with a variety
sports people to enhance their learning. Other
