Diploma in Sports Massage
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course consists of modules 1-9(ii) and modules 21-26. Module 21(i & ii) is a postal assignment. The remaining modules require attendance over six weekends in Nottingham, which are generally arranged a month apart. The latter modules contain sport specific material. These modules are accessible to therapist with an existing remedial massage qualification who wish to study the Sports Injury and Rehabilitation elements, but have already covered the earlier course content (credit will be given for prior learning).
Sports massage is covered to enable work to be undertaken on sporting professionals under the direction of a physiotherapist. Training is also given to enable students to evaluate and enhance performance in the field of sport. Students also have a log book to complete with records of treatments they have conducted in the sporting field.

Module 9(ii) = First Aid Emergencies, Business Practice, CPD & Professional Registration
Module 21(i) = Principles of Sports Medicine and Tissue Science
Module 21 (ii) = Exercise Physiology and Biochemistry
Module 22 = Sports Massage & Principles of Rehabilitation
Module 23 = Lower Limb Injuries
Module 24 = Upper Limb Injuries
Module 25 = Head, Pelvis and Spine
Module 26 = First-Line Treatment, Thermal Therapy, Cryotherapy, Sports Nutrition & Development, Changes in Athletes
ASSESSMENT:
Written and practical examinations are undertaken to assess whether the candidate has the necessary academic and practical knowledge to work confidently as an individual or as part of a multi-disciplinary team in providing a high standard of supervision and care for athletes, within the limits of their own professional practice and in accordance with an acceptable code of ethics.
- Students are required to attend all the seminars
- Students are required to complete all research assignments
- A 2.5 hour written examination covering Anatomy and Physiology and Consultation, Examination and Treatment requires a passing grade of 65%.
- There is also a practical exam, in which an overall grade of 75% is required
- A Credit is awarded to those who achieve 75% or more in the written paper
- A Distinction is awarded for a grade of 85% or over in the written paper
QUALIFICATION:
A Diploma in Sports Massage, Injury and Rehabilitation is awarded to successful candidates.
The successful candidate can use the letters Dip SM (MSM) after their name on completion of this course and apply for full membership of the NAMMT and CNHC.
FEES:
Total course cost = £2595. This includes an initial enrolment fee of £120. Payments can be made by standing order of £150 over sixteen months followed by the final examination fee of £75.
Students may make payment in full at the commencement of the course by cheque or credit card. Payment by credit card incurs a 5% charge.
Fees are non-refundable in the event of non-attendance but in certain circumstances a student may have their course temporarily suspended. Fees are subject to revision at any time except for students already enrolled. Enrolment is deemed to have lapsed after 12 months of non-attendance.

EXAMINATIONS

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Prospective students should have specific interest in sports massage and selection is made by interview. This is also a prime opportunity to discuss individual needs and ensure the course of your choice is right for you. Students must also undertake work experience during the course with a variety sports people to enhance their learning.
